MORE
Today Im delighted to introduce our second guest blogger this year. My lovely prophetic and wise friend Jenny. ( I am just loving how this time around the blog is inspiring a few of you to have a go at writing what God is speaking to you to share with us all. )
One of my favourite films as a child every Christmas on our big box telly was Oliver Twist. Ah, the memorable song and dance routines; a rags to riches story about an orphan boy who had a crackin’ angelic voice.
In one scene his ‘friends’ in the orphanage dining room egg him on to
ask for seconds. You all know the next line. Oliver walks slowly up towards the
pompous, plump proprietor Mr Bumble.
‘Please Sir, I want…some…more?’
At which Harry Secombe as the booming Bumble shouts at the top of his voice,
‘WHAT?’ I am still scared every time I hear him scream.
Today as I drove to buy yet more food to feed my family, my eyes were
drawn to a lorry nearby. In big red letters were the following words.
BE MORE.
DELIVER MORE.
EXPECT MORE.
I really felt God saying, ‘Remember these.’
Unwisely I shared them with our Caz. J
And suddenly I found myself volunteering to write for Advent blog. So here goes.
There are a few parts of the bible I don’t like. Shock. Horror.
The worst of which is in the first book.
In Genesis God asks Abraham to sacrifice his only son Isaac on Mount Moriah.
I find it extremely difficult to read. Why would God test Abraham like that?
Anyway, spoiler alert…when Abraham is walking up to the place, his young son
says, ‘Dad…we’ve got wood, and stuff for a fire…but where is the lamb for the
sacrifice?’ I imagine Abraham at that point internally wrestling with himself,
asking God for an answer. Abraham replies, ‘Well son, God will provide.’ And He
did. But not until Isaac was bound up ready to be the stand in.
Abraham renames the place Jehovah Jireh, ‘The Lord sees, and will
provide.’
What is God asking us to do? Does it seem impossible? Unreasonable?
‘Surely not that Lord?’
Often in life we can’t see the lamb yet. When is He going to provide?
Does God even see me?
The world around us asks ‘Where
is the lamb? I thought You said there’d be a lamb?’
The lamb is coming. God does see. He will provide.
Be more like Jesus.
Deliver more of Jesus.
Expect more of Jesus.
THE LAMB IS COMING.
