Unity
I know I said I wouldn't ...... but this one is about Covid. Except it isnt really :)
The rise of Covid and the rise of the computer have in equal measure divided us and brought us together. Strange that, isnt it? This year we have probably been more separated from each other than we have ever been in our lifetimes. And we have all probably spent more time on gadgets than ever before. Gadgets which in many ways take us out of the real and present world and isolate us. And yet..... this year we have zoomed and worked and had prayer meetings and done church and chatted through this very same technology which we all often bemoan. Is it just that there is good and bad in everything? I suppose thats probably true. We are constantly choosing and assessing the tipping points - when is too much technology too much? When is too little contact with others becoming crippling? When is giving someone a hug lifesaving and when is it life threatening?
Recently on Facebook I got into a discussion with someone who was a vaccine conspiracy proponent. They were saying that the Bill Gates, microchip, surveillance, mark of the beast stuff should be investigated and thought about and that we should not be allowing the government to dictate to us over what we put into our own bodies. I waded into the argument online, but ever since Ive been thinking about it. And today the thoughts crystallised into this. The church across the globe has been united in prayer over the past nine months. We have all been praying for the same thing - and end to the virus . So, now that we have a vaccine we can think one of three things about it.1) God heard our prayers and answered by giving the scientists and medics the expertise and abilities to formulate an effective vaccine
2) God heard our prayers and is working on it but Satan got in first and now we have a vaccine which is going to bring us everlasting doom
3) We asked for a fish but God decided to give us a scorpion.
Here is another matter about which we have a choice. Are we going to have the vaccine or not? True, its not been massively tested as yet. True its been developed very quickly indeed and we possibly dont know too much about it. But... we prayed for a solution. Millions upon millions of us. Via the wonder which is the internet we have been unified in prayer in a way which has never before been possible. Remember the song ' The Blessing' which was sung all round the world those first weeks of lockdown? Translated into hundreds of languages it 'went viral' almost overnight. Those words from Numbers 6 soared as an intercession for the world and declared the promise of His blessing over all peoples. The same internet which allows the conspiracy theorists to spread confusion and fear also allows the church of God to preach the gospel to all nations. And where there is unity across the church then God commands His blessing. Im choosing to believe that the vaccine will be a part of the blessing He has for us in 2021
